Every Step Matters: The DEAC Foot and Ankle Clinic

Every Step Matters: The DEAC Foot and Ankle Clinic at City with Dwellings April is National Volunteer Awareness Month The average neighbor experiencing unsheltered homelessness walks roughly 10 miles a day. That kind of wear can lead to serious pain, infection, and long-term health problems. The DEAC Foot and Ankle Clinic, staffed by volunteers from Wake Forest University School of Medicine, provides foot care, podiatry services, new footwear, and socks for our unsheltered neighbors. What started with our team heading out in a van to find people who might want their feet checked has grown into a clinic now serving more than 30 neighbors per clinic day. They could not do it without the CwD volunteers who prepare breakfast bags, greet every neighbor at the door, and make sure each person feels seen and welcomed. This April, we are grateful for every volunteer who makes this clinic possible.

Cruisin’ into 60 and the Surprise Power of Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

We didn’t set out to start a movement. We just wanted to throw a birthday party. This year, I turned 60. My husband, Chris, will turn 60 in October. Rather than plan two separate celebrations, we decided to team up for one big joint party. As we planned, it became clear that this milestone was about more than marking time.
